FIU Faculty Named to Hispanic Business Magazine’s 100 Most Influential List

MIAMI, FL, November 15, 2011 – Rosanna M. Fiske, a seasoned public relations professional and faculty member at Florida International University (FIU)’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, has been named by Hispanic Business magazine as one of the 100 most influential Hispanic business executives in the magazine’s latest edition. Fiske, who currently serves as chair and CEO of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), is among 30 Hispanic executives selected for the “Corporate Influential” category. Other categories ranked by the magazine include: Academic; Arts and Entertainment; Diversity; Government; and Miscellaneous.

“I am honored to be selected by Hispanic Business magazine as one of the leading Hispanic business leaders,” said Fiske. “As a Hispanic faculty member in the leading communications program for Hispanic students, it is especially rewarding to be part of such a distinguished group of diverse executives and academics.”

Contributing to Fiske’s selection, the magazine chose Hispanics who have had recent and national impact and whose achievements inspire other Hispanics to similar endeavors. Of Fiske, the magazine stated: Ms. Fiske has more than 20 years of experience in communications. She began her career as a journalist and has held senior communications counsel, marketing and management positions in agency and corporate settings. The final selection focused on those who have promoted the advancement of Hispanics in the United States by their leadership, community involvement or professional achievements.

Among her many milestones, Fiske was the first Hispanic woman president of the Miami chapter of PRSA, one of the largest in the nation.  She has received a number of industry and academic awards, including the 2010 Public Relations Professional of the Year “PRemio” Award by the Hispanic Public Relations Association for her many years of service to advance the profession as well as her community.  During her tenure at FIU as Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director, Fiske has been instrumental in helping shape the school’s Global Strategic Communications program into the largest graduate communications program in Florida.

“Rosanna has distinguished herself as an excellent faculty member as well as one of the most respected professionals in the public relations industry,” said Fernando Figueredo, associate professor and chair of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations at FIU.  “We’re very happy to see that her tireless commitment to the public relations profession and to FIU has been recognized by Hispanic Business Magazine, the premier magazine covering business leadership in the Hispanic community.”

Schoolof Journalism and Mass Communication at Florida International University

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) at Florida International University is at the forefront of global and strategic communications education. With more than 2,100 students, 82 percent minority, the school offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificate programs in advertising, journalism, and public relations – including its Spanish-language Journalism master’s program, the first of its kind in the United States. As one of only 25% of all communication schools in the country fully accredited by ACEJMC, the SJMC is rated in the Top 3 nationally for undergraduate communication degrees awarded to Hispanics. The School’s master’s program in Global Strategic Communications emphasizes global decision making and has rapidly become a model for other such graduate programs in the country, underscoring the importance of global learning initiatives and international citizenship.
